Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
