An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.
She stated the defendant continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the police again.
She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
