England along with Wales Pitted in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

The pool stage draw was conducted by sporting icons such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a highly-anticipated early encounter in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing mirrors their memorable meeting in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground played a part in the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Key Group Draws

Ireland alongside Scotland have likewise been drawn in a pool together, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, they secured a convincing win, with their opponents failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, who each impressed as underdogs in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and world number one South Africa before the final, assuming the Springboks win their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the pools play out according to the current world rankings, other leading contenders like New Zealand and Les Bleus would remain separated from both the English and Ireland until the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining top-ranked nation on that half of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their great rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Pool A.

Australia will open the tournament in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match designed to jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions South Africa have drawn Italy, Georgia and Romania. France are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the tournament expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who competed in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will feature a last-16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

While the victor of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts initially, they will have to face the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the first knockout round.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will face a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
